Family Dispute Almost Deadly

Just after midnight Sunday morning, Lansing Patrol Officers and Investigators responded to the 17900 block of Community Street for a domestic disturbance involving a victim that was stabbed with a knife. When officers arrived, family members were detaining David Alcala, 35, of Whiting, IN. and he was taken into custody by police. The family member who was stabbed with the knife lost a lot of blood and was treated by Lansing Paramedics on scene. He was transported to St. Margaret Mercy (Hammond, IN.), treated for his injuries, and was released Sunday.

The investigation revealed Alcala was in a verbal altercation with family members and went to the bedroom to look for something under the bed. He left the room, went to the kitchen, got a knife, and attacked the victim. The Lansing Crime Scene Investigator recovered evidence at the scene including the knife used in the incident. A shotgun was recovered under the bed, in the back corner, where Alcala was looking for something. This could have been a lot worse if Alcala got his hands on the shotgun.

Alcala was charged with Aggravated Battery, a class 3 felony, and was transported to Markham Courthouse for bond hearing Monday morning. A Cook County Judge set bond at $40,000.
